Each of these volumes contain detailed description and critical notes on inscriptions belonging to a particular dynasty or a particular period of history, edited by distinguished scholars both from the department and outside. First volume of Corpus Inscriptionum Indicarum containing Asokan inscriptions was edited by A. Cunningham and brought out in the year 1877 and later on its revised edition was brought out in the year 1925 by E. Hultzsch. So far, seven volumes of this series have been published. They contain texts of all the inscriptions critically edited. Like Inscriptions of
Asoka, Bharhut inscriptions, Inscriptions of the Imperial Guptas, Inscriptions of the Vakatakas, Inscriptions of the Kalachuri-Chedis, Inscriptions of Silaharas and Inscriptions of the Chandellas and Paramaras have been brought out. These volumes were prepared by eminent scholars like Hultzsch, Fleet, Sten Konow, L.H.Luders, D.R.Bhandarkar, V.V.Mirashi, B.Ch.Chhabra, G.S.Gai and H.V.Trivedi.
